Pinehurst Roundabout Street Mural
This was my first official project with Coyote Central and was a 2 part project for a youth lead mural roundabout installation in The Pinehurst community. These are gaining popularity as they are an inexpensive alternative to a traditional traffic circle. Rather than have SDOT come out and construct a traffic circle, the community can apply for grants to create a mural for their neighborhood.
First we started at the Coyote Central facility located in The Central District for a brainstorm session. Our group talked about ways we impact our community and how our community is a reflection of ourselves. We watched videos, sketched, and then developed a concept of a round neighborhood we thought was reflective of the idea we wanted to convey. from here we came up with the design below.
The second portion of the class was met onsite for the installation. At first we had a little bit of rain scare and were on the fence about rescheduling. I am so glad we didn't because once we got started, we zipped along painting. From the photos you can see we employed several tents to keep the site dry.
I am so proud to have been the adult artists lead on this, but really all of the credit goes to the youth participants and project manager; Christian Basilio. Christian had a vision on how to improve his neighborhood by creating a solution to an issue he observed. I am so honored I was selected to help him with this vision.
